Crisis Intervention Services is comprised of a Crisis Clinic and a Crisis Intervention Center. The Crisis phone line is a 24-hour response, with a mental health clinician on call at all times. The Crisis Intervention Center assists consumers in crisis to maintain functioning in the community to the greatest extent possible. A crisis is an event or situation that results in a person's need for immediate mental health intervention. Crisis services may be requested in person or by telephone and are provided throughout the community in San Joaquin County.

The Crisis Clinic

1212 N. California Street, Stockton, CA 95202
Walk-in Hours: Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Crisis Phone (24-Hour Response): (209)468-8686
Crisis Fax: (209)468-2380

The Crisis Clinic is staffed with Mental Health Clinicians, Registered Nurses and Psychiatrists. If you are not currently receiving mental services you are welcome to come to Crisis Services to receive mental health services. (If you have Medi-Cal or Healthy Families insurance you may call instead of walking-in, Managed Care Access at (209)468-9370 to request mental health services).

Although the name is Crisis, persons do not have to be in a "crisis" or an urgent condition to request our services. A triage evaluation by mental health professionals determines the level or urgency or crisis and the appropriate course of intervention.

A clinician will assess and refer to appropriate resources, including but not limited to:

  • A Psychiatric Outpatient Team
  • Managed Care Access Services (Mental Health Professionals in the community)
  • Crisis Psychiatrist
  • Temporary Out-of-home Placement
  • Psychiatric Health Facility for acute psychiatric care
  • Another community agency
  • The Crisis Services clinician may refer the person back to Crisis Services for brief treatment and/or ongoing assessment of needs.

A field clinician is assigned daily, to respond to community requests for crisis services, including mental health evaluations for temporary, involuntary psychiatric inpatient care in situations where the mental health consumer is a danger to self, danger to others or gravely disabled. The clinician assesses the consumer's ability to maintain community functioning in the least restrictive environment and determines the most appropriate level of care for that person at that time. Hospitals providing medical care may call Crisis Services to request a crisis evaluation for any person at the hospital who has already been medically cleared (ready for discharge), and who may be a danger to self, others or gravely disabled due to a mental disorder.

Crisis Intervention Services Center

1212 N. California Street
Stockton, CA 95202

Crisis Phone (24-Hour Response): (209) 468-8686

Psychiatric Technicians and Mental Health Specialists staff the Crisis Intervention Center. If there is a possible need for temporary, involuntary psychiatric inpatient care, then a Crisis Services clinician is to assess the consumer’s urgent treatment needs.
